Thing #23

Final Thoughts

I am so glad that I went through the 23 things. I learned a lot about thing I never even knew existed. I think it has helped me personally and can bring this library to a better state. These tools are very helpful to draw people to us and to help with research. Its easier, faster, and more efficient. So I say way to go FPL!!! Lets keep improving ourselves.

Thing #22

User's Choice

I used and loved Google Reader and RSS feeds. Never new about them before and found them to be very helpful. When I was searching for the different topics I decided to pick somehthing that I'm really interseted in so I picked couponing. It gives me the scoop on where sales are and how much which coupons to use. Not only do I think this helped me but also our patrons. A lot of people are on a budget. Many books about finances and budgeting are checked out and this can be a very useful tool for them. They could also explore and find other subjects that may help them in their career. So I really LOVE this tool.

Thing # 21

I decided to pick my favorite restaurant. Olive Garden. I looked at the different things that people said and added my comment about their specials and how much i love them. Especially the never ending pasta bowl.

Thing # 20

Podcasting

I think this is a really good tool for the library. I especially like the discussions of books. Its like having an online bookclub. Another thing I like about it is being able to check out a book before I read it. I'm really don't like trying new authors. I just don't want to get disappointed. This would be helpful to our patrons for that reason and for posting live feed from an event that took place. Possibly storytime and the different teen special events.

I was familiar with podcasting before because my church uses it. I really like it because if I miss a week I am able to listen to the sermon with out having to buy the cd of the sermon. I can watch it for free.

Thing # 17

Music Streaming and Sharing

This access was blocked for my use since I was using a work computer. I understand. I have used some sites like this before and I really enjoy them. I think we could use it to help the patrons to possibly find new things they are interested in. If they are waiting for a CD that may be on hold we can introduce them to this different sites and show them how to use it. I think they would like it a lot.

Thing 13 & 14

Thing 13

It amazing. My original URL had 125 characters and it shortened it to 25. How awesome. I tried making it as long as I could. It was an recipe that I searched for on the food network. I texted the link to my husband to see how it work.

Thing 14

Now this was impressive. Sometimes it takes a long time for me to send a big file through email. This is nice. Especially that they send you the link to be able to share it with friends. Very helpful.

Thing # 11

LinkIn

I thought this was an awesome website to recommend to our patrons. It was helpful for people looking for jobs. Everything seemed to be very easy to set up. It was nice that sense of being connected. I think this is something I will definately pass on to some people I know who are looking for some job.

Thing # 10

Library Thing

I think this is such a good idea. I love it. Its really hard for me try something new by a new author. I love it that there are book reviews. It makes it so much easier to try and find something different. This is a great thing for our library. Getting people connected. awesome website.

Thing # 9

Delicious

wow and I just learning so much today. When I get a new computer I get so sad because my favorite are erased and I have to start all over again. This is awesome. I book marked some of the sites I visit this most and I'm excited to have them saved for me. I think this would be a wonderful tool for the librarians. Faster service would happen because its just a click away. They can book mark information for city council meetings, directions, resource engines. Its great.

Thing #8

I think tagging for library use is very helpful for patrons. It helps with doing searches. Sometimes patrons have asked questions about books but don't remember the title or they remember parts of the book. Tagging would help this find what they are looking for faster. Not only on our online catatlog would this help but on our website. There would be so much more information to help our patrons with this most up to date info.

Thing # 7

Instant Messaging

I think instant messaging is great. I've used it in the past but now i tend to use more texting. At work I think its a fabulous tool. I've used it before. I happend to be logged in and messaged a coworker at the reference desk asking a question about a photo shoot that was going to be taking place. It was very nice to get the answer so quick. Within a work enviroment I think its a great tool. Outside of work I really don't use it that much.

Thing # 6

Digg

I thought this thing was very interesting. I found it to be very similar to how the library. Its a information source. Not all fluffy but a good rounded source of information. As a library we try to have information to people from the past (history) and also try to have current events. Digg has very update information on new topics. It is a very good resource for a library.

Thing #16

Google Doc

I like this. I think its really neat to have somewhere you can save documents and you are able to access anywhere and not just your personal computer. How awesome is this. I really enjoyed learning how to do this and now I have the grocery list for Mrs. Barbara's White Trash. I can look up the list whenever and where ever I am. Excited. I this will come in handy. Wooohoooo!!!

Thing 18

Youtube

Now this site is so much fun. I can see how useful this would be for the library. Posting different events. So many people look at this site and if we post something it could get hits and get people interested for come in to see our beautiful library.

Thing # 15

Google Maps

I really enjoyed looking at this website. I looked up the Cambridge Village Library in Cambridge, WI. I looked up directions from the library and did some alternative routes. I didn't know you could do that. It was really nice to look at with the street view. I think it would be good to use when a patron calls and need directions to the library. I've only lived here for 3 years and when I'm asked directions I really don't know my way since I don't venture too far.
